Mother Julia Memorial Room

On 29 August 2025, the 28th anniversary of Mother Julia Verhaeghe's death, the first Mother Julia Memorial Room will be officially opened at Thalbach Monastery in Bregenz. Designed and conceived by members of The Work in collaboration with the design team at ‘kreativ si’, the room blends elegantly into the historic building of Thalbach Monastery.

Five display cases contain items from the life of Mother Julia Verhaeghe, which, accompanied by photographs, describe the most important milestones in her life and represent the development of The Work

Five acrylic paintings by Sister Johanna Szalachy FSO catch the visitor's eye. The series of paintings depicts the ‘Image of the Covenant’. Using shapes, colours and corresponding motifs, Sister Johanna artistically represents the charism of The Work:

"The vocation is a gift from the Heart of Jesus; Julia receives the vocation and passes it on. On the path of vocation, we are given heavenly companions, such as Paul or the Archangel Raphael. Our path should always lead to the worship and praise of God. The centre of our life is the Holy Eucharist. From it, our spiritual family is formed, in order to then build the Kingdom of God in the midst of the world," Sister Johanna explains the five picture panels.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the life and work of Mother Julia by viewing the series of pictures, photos and objects. The next room, which can also be visited, is the room where Mother Julia passed away.

The room in the Thalbach convent where Mother Julia Verhaeghe passed away.

You are cordially invited to visit the new Mother Julia Memorial Room. Please, come direclty to the reception or give us a phonecall. Guided tours can also be arranged. Welcome!
