Marching for Life

Erie, PA. January is the National Pro-Life month. Countless initiatives all over the country contribute to giving a voice to the most vulnerable in our society. The biggest initiative in that regard is the National March for Life that is held in Washington DC every year. This year marked the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the case that legalized abortion in the United States, on Friday, January 21, 2022. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country gathered again for the huge Pro-Life March in DC. I, Sr. Carmen Haemmerle FSO, could witness this amazing March firsthand. Currently I am the Advisor for the Gannon University Students for Life Club. The students decided that they wanted to be part of the March and to stand up for the Unborn. Our group joined the Erie People for Life on their trip to Washington DC. Travelling through the night we arrived on Friday morning at the nation’s capital. Our first stop led us to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception where some of us participated at Holy Mass and others admired the beautiful shrine. And then we were ready to go out into the cold (10°F/-12°C) to meet with thousands of pro-lifers on Constitution Ave for the biggest March for Life worldwide. Young people, families, various pro-life groups, parishes… all marched peacefully to fight for the abolishment of Abortion. It was such a gift to be able to be there with a bunch of students, who I am privileged to serve. The enthusiasm and joy with which these young people stand up for the truth is mind blowing. I am grateful to God for calling me to serve these young people, to be a spiritual mother to them and to help them to pursue the True, Good and Beautiful.
