John Henry Newman will be declared a Doctor of the Church

On 31 July 2025, the Holy Father Leo XIV received in audience His Eminence Most Reverend Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints.

During the same audience, the Holy Father confirmed the affirmative opinion of the Plenary Session of the Cardinals and Bishops, Members of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, regarding the title of Doctor of the Universal Church that will soon be conferred on St. John Henry Newman,

Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, Founder of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri in England; born in London (UK) on 21 February 1801 and died in Edgbaston (UK) on 11 August 1890.

Our Spiritual Family The Work has directed the International Centre of Newman Friends for 50 years in order to promote Newman's person and writings. 

There will be a Mass of Thanksgiving for the Golden Jubilee of our Newman Centre on Saturday, 11th October 2025, in the Church of S. Giorgio al Velabro at 5:00 pm. The main celebrant will be Cardinal Semarero.
